A well known engine so hopefully a well known problem and solution. We have had oodles of mishaps with the boat but the current one is starting and I know these bugeers are pretty reliable and should start with just heat on the glows and some diesle thrown at them. She has been running and when so people comment that the engine sounds nice. Batteries are new, starter is new and she has diesel, oil and hopefully everything she needs. She was sat idel for a while and due to batteries being low (I presume) needed a jump but once going ran well for a few days and then...dun dun dunn....
when we tried to get her going she got to the point of kicking in where we smile really quickly then suddenly suputtered and died at that moment as if having a lifeline cut. Out comes our mechanic, jump and a little while later and she's off again. Few more days and then one morning same again. Just revs up, kicks in, then sputter and die. So possibilities and fixes here without extracting the engine as that would be a nightmare.
Diesel bug? she has had treatment of late
Not enough water from the canal? could this be a problem?
Batteries not strong enough? we have 1000CCA pretty new battery twinned with two new leisures for starting
fuel blockage? whenever jumping injectors have been loosened and then tightened and seems to go soon after that
Sure someone will ask after smoke and last time she got going was a hefty amount of white indicating water somewhere maybe in the system but fuel filter was drained and no sign of water then a splash of blue but understandable with an old diesel then ran fan with pretty much no smoke.
Obvioulsy hard to diagnose without being on hand but maybe someone had experienced something similar.
Oh dear well off to ask the neighbours for a jump and hope that helps the next couple of days
A sad dying boat,
