Can any one help poppetman with his enquiry :- I've just seen an ad on Apolloduck for this boat www.apolloduck.com/feature.phtml?id=233845 Looks a real deal at £50K Any info you may have on Coulter boats and Perkins P3 engine would be much appreciated.

Link appears to have gone. P3s are getting a bit long in the tooth now. I have a pair of P6s if anyone wants them. Good enough engines and only a bit older than my Dovertec 2275 and I am happy with that. billy

That's better, looks ok and is not old. The only thing that worries me with narrow boats is that the floors always seem to be nailed down so you can't easily see what's going on underneath. Gravel, bricks and slabs seem to be favourite for ballast and all these trap moisture, particularly gravel. The inside of the shell needs to have a better coat of paint than the outside as it is only going to get done once. Behind the lining and never to be seen again is the place to cut corners if it is going to happen. I've seen it on barges and even on mine. I discovered the sweepings from the floor, grinding wheels, welding wire ends etc. were all in one of the water tanks and the lid was welded on. Most steel boats rust from the inside but as long as you are aware and prepared for it then it needn't be a problem. If the engine really has been properly done then even though it is ancient it should be fine. Look at me! ;D billy
