Okay so the whole plan for getting our little fella from Hungerford to Lechlade has all gone tits up thanks to some lovely lock closures on the Thames, namely Shifford Lock 1 Nov - 20 Dec Days Lock - 1 Nov - 20 Dec Hambleden Lock 1 Nov - 12 Jan 2012 and the real killer Benson Lock 1 Nov - 16 bloody March Now December would have been fine but now we have no idea what the hell to do and worry that the only way back is overland...any ideas or should I just scupper our boat now, get myself a nice tidy haircut, plasma TV and a job in a bank

Hmmm or take up residence in Devizes. I definitely could not stomach a job in a bank

Oh dear!! :'(Couldn't have forseen that! Overland it is unless you want to explore the K&A for 5 months. Let's look at finding a lorry and getting to the marina by the time the crane comes next week and get a free lift-in.
ps. Coincidently we went for a look-see at Devizes yesterday and I dont think you would prefer a winter there... but Caen Hill was impressive..20 something locks!!! Martin

What bad luck Paul, so sorry to hear your bad news. If you don't want to stay in that area while you wait for the locks to open, I suppose over land is the only way. (more expense)

well we hope so. Gotta fix up a fair few problems with Fluke before then but hopefully nothing major though in the spring/ summer when we lift her I dread to think. She almost looks clean at the minute mind which is nice now off to get some epoxy and deal with those holes and god knows what with the fungus/dry rot

Best of luck Paul, enjoy!! Are you where you started or have you moved on? Might pop in one day if i'm near the K&A. You might prefer it there....cheaper than the marina! Martin.

well if you saw the news today we really are stuck as locks keep on closing thanks to a lack of rainfall slowly penning us in. Thankfully though someone else fell foul of the lock closures so we have a neighbour. Moved a tad further along past the swing bridge in the direction of hungerford so welcome to come down and have a cuppa anytime you like. She almost looks inhabitable now
