Help please, any advice regarding boat preparations for our forthcoming Boat Safety Scheme inspection (Due in Sept) I have downloaded the guide but would like some tips or useful information from more experienced members. One bit of advice I have already been given 'is get rid of the clutter' Brian & Chris

Hi Oscar I have just had mine done on my Horizon 35 and I was unsure as to how it would go but on the day all was ok. I had put all clutter away as the examiner will search many holes and panels in his quest for items to check serviceability etc including correct numbers etc on rubber pipes especially connections to the fuel, gas and engine area. Better that he comes early (allowed 2 month's prior to ROD of old BSS) as if you fail it you still have time to sort the problems out. Ensure that you get a good examiner and one that does not charge for a retest. Access to the relevant areas is a must though as he has to check them all. Read the "Boat Safety" part on this forum and you could find a good examiner. Good luck.

Thanks andy04,
I am just printing out the guidelines now, and will start clearing the clutter, that is a good point about finding an inspector that doesn't charge for return visit.
Again many thanks Brian

BSS & BSC is the same some ref ere to it as the Boat Safety Certificate but of late it seems to be refer ed to as Boat Safety Scheme.,
Thankfully we only need the one

The cost of the BSC is around £100 for the inspection and then £40 for the actual certificate.
