Hi,
noob here, so if the question has already been asked, I appologies. I'm planning on buying a small-ish houseboat ideally converted lifeboat as a live-aboard (Thus why I'm here).
The task then becomes finding a residential mooring, somewhere in London (A sisyphean task on it's own) the question I have, given that I don't intend ofter moving the boat all that often, is there any reason I can't get ADSL / Broadband through a phoneline, assuming that the Marina / Boatyard has phonelines for it's residental customers?

Hi Dan, Some friends on a neighbouring barge have been trying to get a line in to their yard berth. BT seem reluctant to want to put a line in on someone else's land. Even though there is a line and space on it already there. There have been at least 5 historic lines to berths here but trying to get them reinstated is difficult unless you know the old number or pay a vast sum. Certainly posh marinas have lines ready for you and there is no problem. You just need to chuck cash to get it done and have the agreement of the land owner. The line normally terminates on land and it's up to you to arrange the connection to the boat. Least it is round here. billy

I've got a phone line and broadband here on Thorpe Island in Norwich. I had no major problems, and did it with BT. The phone point is installed on the quay heading so I can just unplug if I go out cruising.
I waited until they did a free installation offer, otherwise it would have cost £125 approx fo installing a new line. It's worth checking if they're still doing this.
Good luck,
Nick

Thanks for that, it'll be a challenge. But until Dongles are a perfect(ish) science I need something a little more than 3G data.
